Kelly Nichols of Bozeman, Richard Potter of Missoula and Montana Riehle of Great Falls each brought gold home to the Treasure State from the 2009 Special Olympic Winter Games in February in Boise, Idaho.

Nichols, 20, was good for gold in slalom, while 50-yearold Potter sprinted to gold in the 100-meter snowshoe. Riehle, 14, captured gold in cross-country in the 4x1K relay. Chris Zier, 22, of Missoula also medaled.

Dubbed the “Fab Four,” the athletes got a warm send-off hours before they left Great Falls to represent Montana.

They joined about 2,500 athletes from more than 100 countries at the games, Feb. 7-13.

The athletes were accompanied by coaches Chuck Kohut of Great Falls and Vanessa Browning of Billings. Jake Broden and Tanealya Hueth, both of Great Falls, also traveled to the games as representatives in the fifth Global Youth Activation Summit on intellectual disabilities.
